Red Carpet, Zero Pants: The 2025 Dogboff Goof-Off Awards Had Everything

The lights dimmed. The orchestra swelled. Nobody stood up, because standing up is effort, and effort is not what this evening is about.
Welcome to the 2025 Dogboff Awards for Excellence in Goofing Off — the only honors ceremony where the red carpet is technically a worn hallway rug and the dress code is "whatever was within arm's reach." After a rigorous selection process that mostly consisted of us arguing in a group chat for three weeks, the envelopes have been opened, the trophies (repurposed dog agility ribbons) have been handed out, and the speeches have run exactly as long as the winners felt like talking, which was either ten seconds or forty minutes.
Here's who took home gold this year.
The Sweaty Palms Award for Mastery of the 4:59 Fake-Out
Winner: Greg from Accounting, an office worker so skilled at appearing busy at 4:59 PM that coworkers genuinely believe he's the last one working late. Greg's signature move — aggressively typing while his screen displays a blank Excel file — earned a standing ovation from a crowd that remained seated.
"I'd like to thank Alt-Tab," Greg said in his acceptance speech, before pretending to take a phone call and leaving the stage. "I gotta take this."
Best Original Narration in a Domestic Feline Production
Winner: Denise M., who has provided full voice-over work for her cat, Sir Reginald Whiskerton III, every day since 2019. Denise performs Sir Reginald's inner monologue aloud — complete with a British accent, opinions about the neighbors, and a recurring bit where he critiques her dating life.
"He doesn't pay rent, so he might as well do content," Denise told the press pool (her sister, who was there).
The Rewatch Heard Round the World
Winner: The unnamed man from Ohio who has watched the same movie trailer 47 times this year without ever seeing the actual movie. When asked why, he offered the most honest acceptance speech of the night: "The trailer is perfect. The movie can only ruin it."
Philosophers are reportedly furious they didn't think of this first.
Lifetime Achievement in Goofing Off
The evening's highest honor went to the guy who has attended every neighborhood association meeting since 2011 purely to say "so what's the plan with the geese?" and then leave. Fifteen meetings a year. Zero follow-up questions. One goose agenda. He did not attend the ceremony, which attendees agreed was the most powerful possible acceptance.
And the Loser Is...
Every awards show needs a snub, and this year's heartbreak belongs to the woman who spent four hours organizing her streaming watchlist into a spreadsheet instead of watching anything. She was edged out in a category that doesn't exist yet, but Dogboff sources confirm the committee "felt really bad about it" and promised her a trophy by 2026, or whenever someone gets around to it.
See You Next Year (Probably)
The 2025 Goof-Off Awards closed with a montage of the year's greatest non-accomplishments, set to a cover of "Eye of the Tiger" performed entirely on a kazoo. Then everyone went home and immediately told their group chat they were "heading out soon" while lying on the floor.
Nominations for 2026 are now open. If you know a champion of the idle arts — a snack-bunker architect, a zoomies enthusiast, a person who has explained the plot of a show to someone who didn't ask — send them our way. The bar is on the floor, which is exactly where we like it.
